the state of health care in Ontario is in crisis, with 2.3 million Ontarians lacking access to a family doctor, emergency room closures across the province, patients being de-rostered and 40% of family doctors considering retirement over the next five years; and Whereas it has becoming increasingly challenging to attract and retain an adequate healthcare workforce throughout the health sector across Ontario; and Whereas Ontario municipal governments play an integral role in the health care system through responsibilities in public health, long-term care, and paramedicine; and Whereas the percentage of family physicians practicing comprehensive family medicine has declined from 77 in 2008 to 65 percent in 2022; and Whereas per capita health-care spending in Ontario is the lowest of all provinces in Canada; and Whereas a robust workforce developed through a provincial, sector-wide health human resources strategy would significantly improve access to health services across the province; Now Therefore Be It Resolved That the Council of the Municipality of Trent Lakes urge the Province of Ontario to recognize the physician shortage in the Municipality of Trent Lakes and Ontario, to fund health care appropriately and ensure every Ontarian has access to physician care.

it is apparent that the Ontario Government has overlooked the needs of small rural Ontario; and Whereas Ontario's small rural municipalities face insurmountable challenges to fund both upfront investments and ongoing maintenance of their capital assets including roads, bridges, water/wastewater and municipally owned buildings including recreational facilities, libraries and other tangible capital assets; and Whereas small rural Ontario's operating needs consume the majority of property tax revenue sources; and Whereas small rural municipalities (of 10,000 people or less) are facing monumental infrastructure deficits that cannot be adequately addressed through property tax revenue alone; and Whereas in 2015 the provincial government moved to standardized billing for all non-contract O.P.P. (5.1) locations; and Whereas the Ontario Government has committed $9.1 billion to Toronto alone to assist with operating deficits and the repatriation of the Don Valley and Gardner Expressway; and $534 million to Ottawa for the repatriation of Hwy 174; and Whereas the annual cost of the Ontario Provincial Police, Municipal Policing Bureau for small rural non-contract (5.1) municipalities is approximately $428 million; and Whereas this annual cost is significantly less than the repatriation costs of the Gardiner Express Way, the Don Valley Parkway and Highway 174 (Ottawa Region) but provides a greater impact to the residents of the Province overall; and Whereas this will afford relief to smal

County Road 507 (CR507) is located within the Municipality of Trent Lakes and is maintained by Peterborough County; and Whereas CR507 is a main County Road and is a conduit for many drivers who use it to travel to properties within Trent Lakes, as well as travelling outside Trent Lakes to cottage country north of Trent Lakes, as it runs from County Road 36 at Flynn’s Corner to County Road 503 Gooderham; and Whereas CR507 is a long and winding road which, in certain locations, presents drivers with navigational challenges and the set speed limit on CR507 is predominantly 80 km/h; and Whereas over the years, CR507 has been the site of many serious and sometimes fatal motor vehicle collisions and although CR507 may not be unique in its location, to other rural country roads, it has seemed to be host of many vehicle collisions; and Whereas over the past four years, there have been four fatal motor vehicle collisions and several serious injury collisions. These collisions, granted, have occurred in different locations on CR507, however there seems to be one particular location that has seen more motor vehicle collisions than other locations, as indicated in Photo 1; and Whereas it is long overdue for a signage strategy which entails effective signage meant to grab the attention of the driver and provide them with immediate visual feedback as to their speed.
